Sen. Feeney visits Walpole’s New Pond Village – in midst of $8 million renovation – for campus tour and resident town hall meeting

WALPOLE, MA - State Sen. Paul Feeney, who represents the Bristol and Norfolk District that includes Walpole, visited New Pond Village, a Benchmark Senior Living community, earlier this week to tour its soon-to-be-completed Memory Care Center, part of $8 million in renovations now underway. Sen. Feeney also participated in a town hall meeting with residents, focusing his remarks on the latest in health care policy and education.

“Our residents are highly involved in the community, from philanthropy to local politics,” says Susan Cwieka, campus executive director. “Speaking with the senator offered a unique opportunity for them to engage and offer solutions to issues they care about facing the Walpole area and beyond.”

The completion of the new Memory Care Center allows New Pond Village to offer a continuum of care in independent living, assisted living and memory care, providing residents the opportunity to remain in the community as they progress in age and as medical needs change. The Memory Care Center, along with a new assisted living community on the campus, will open this summer.

The Memory Care Center is specifically designed for senior individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s. The design includes visual cues and themes to stimulate memory and help residents find their way, contrasting wall colors to help them better identify their surroundings, and special lighting to reduce distracting shadows in common areas.

“New Pond Village is a gem in Walpole and is truly a value to the entire community,” said Senator Feeney. “It is essential that those in need of memory care are in a warm, comfortable, safe and patient-centered environment. It was obvious to me throughout my recent tour, that resident comfort and care is a priority within the Memory Care Center. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to talk with independent living residents as well and value the open and wide-ranging discussion that we had about many local and legislative issues.”
