Shopping at New Pond Village: Convenience, Community and Hidden Treasures

With all the amenities like exquisite dining venues, a full-service salon and a fitness center, New Pond Village makes everyday living easy. And when it comes to shopping, residents don’t even need to leave campus!

Whether hunting for unique treasures or picking up weekly essentials, New Pond Village offers two unique shopping destinations right on campus: the Country Store and the Curiosity Shop. When they’re ready to venture out, the community also coordinates scheduled transportation for local shopping trips.

Securing the Staples at the Country Store

For days when you need to restock without leaving campus, the New Pond Village Country Store keeps its shelves well-stocked with everyday items. It’s the perfect spot to grab toiletries, paper products like toilet paper and staples like bread, cereal, soups and peanut butter and jelly. And, of course, you can always find milk and ice cream!

Operated six days a week by dedicated resident volunteers, the store functions as a bustling social hub. Volunteer Janet S. dedicates one hour a week on Wednesdays and shares, “We have various residents volunteering on different days. Shirley H. is a terrific member of the community and has been for many years. She takes care of everything here—managing the store, ordering, setting up displays and setting prices. She’s quite the volunteer, so sweet and she keeps a lot of things going here.”

Resident Carol D. likens it to a “little general store,” while Saturday operator Pat H. agrees: “It’s a community. Some people come by just to chat.”

Because Independent Living apartment homes feature full kitchens, the Country Store makes it easy to pick up quick items to complement a meal at home. For larger shopping trips, residents can also have groceries delivered directly to their door or hop on the community’s weekly bus trip to nearby Stop & Shop or Big Y.

Treasure Hunting at the Lois Fitzgerald Curiosity Shop

Another beloved hub of community connection is the Curiosity Shop. Resident Sally W. now oversees the shop, with Carol D. assisting, continuing a rich tradition of resident-led community support.

The Curiosity Shop holds a special place in the hearts of New Pond Village residents. It was lovingly built and run for many years by resident Lois Fitzgerald, a longtime Walpole resident and Walpole High School alumna who passed away in 2025. Lois originally started the shop inside New Pond Village as a way to give back, raising money for local causes. Today, proceeds from the shop continue to benefit both the Walpole High School Scholarship Fund and the Walpole Public Library.

Filled with donated knick-knacks and gently used goods, you never know what hidden treasures you’ll find—from lamps, artwork and books to luggage, home décor and seasonal finds. It offers residents a wonderful way to downsize or “change their look,” while giving pre-loved items a vibrant second life.

Exciting Excursions & Retail Therapy

For those who love a day out on the town, New Pond Village makes it effortless with organized group outings to the Walpole area’s best shopping destinations:

• Local Favorites: Enjoy trips to nearby shopping centers like Patriot Place in Foxborough and Legacy Place in Dedham for clothing, dining and gifts.

• Bargains & Outlets: The New Pond Village shuttle takes regular trips to the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets, New England’s largest outdoor outlet shopping destination.

• Summer Coastal Trips: During warmer months, residents take seaside day trips to Rockport to explore its charming Main Street, filled with art galleries and local boutiques.
