Senior Living Activities: New Pond Village’s Ukulele Club Strikes a Chord
Reawakening Passions, Building Community
At New Pond Village, we believe in fostering a vibrant community where residents can explore old passions or discover new hobbies through our diverse senior living activities. Our extensive range of clubs and committees offers everyone the opportunity to connect, create and cultivate new interests. Whether it’s a one-time drop-in or a longer-term commitment, there’s a passion, hobby or activity for everyone here.
Introducing the Ukulele Club
The newest addition to our array of activities is the Ukulele Club, born out of resident Trudy W.’s love for the instrument. Trudy, a recent arrival at New Pond Village, was eager to share her passion for the ukulele with fellow residents. She gathered a group of like-minded individuals, and together, they struck the first chords of what has quickly become a beloved new pastime in our community.
A Harmonious Start
According to Carolyn Roycroft, Campus Program Director, the first meeting of the Ukulele Club was a resounding success. “We had fourteen people attend the inaugural session,” Carolyn shared. “We started with the basics—tuning, strumming technique and a couple of chords—and everyone left with a smile.”
The enthusiasm was contagious, and the club quickly became a weekly highlight for its members. Each session offers a blend of learning and playing, with plenty of laughter and camaraderie along the way.
Spreading Joy Through Song
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the Ukulele Club is its outreach to the wider New Pond Village community. Recently, the club hosted a sing-along in our Mind & Memory Care neighborhood, bringing joy to residents through music. These sing-alongs are just the beginning, with more planned for the future as the club continues to grow and flourish.
